To Whom It May Concern:

Scene:
Dimly lit bar. People dancing on the left. Bar on the right. Lounge center. 2 guys and a girl are sitting in chairs beside a couch. Matt is sprawled out, loudly mumbling. Sofie breaks away from a dance looks towards the couch. Matt loudly shouts something, and the 2 guys and girl quickly get up and walk away. Matt sinks low. Sofie approaches.
Sofie:Okay, Matt, I think it's time to go home.
Matt: (slurred) Aw Mum, 5 more minutes.
Sofie: No, luv, I think we should go right now. (BOUNCER takes a step closer)
Matt: (staggers up) Well, then, (shouts) goodbye, cruel world! See you again, soon, at the pub...
Sofie: (looks apologetically at bouncer) Yep, let's go home.
Scene: (lights dim, low spotlight follows the across the stage)
Matt:
Sof, are you coming home with me? (conspiratorially) Tell me, will I score tonight?
Sofie: (looks down, blushes) No, Matt, I'm taking you to to your house, then I'm leaving. In and out, dear.
Matt: Hey Sof, I think I'm a bit drunk. D-did I have lots to drink, then?
Sofie: Yes, Matt, you had quite a lot to drink. (stops) There, now, you're home.
Matt: You know, you can say 'we're home'. It sounds nicer.
Sofie: ( patronizing) Yes, luv, very nice.
Scene: (lights brighten, revealing a small 1 bedroom suite.)
Matt:
(stumbles through the door) Ow.
Sofie: Whoakey, time to get you into bed. (pulls him to the bedroom)
Matt: Well my goodness, aren't you direct! Tell me, are you coming to be with me? Because, frankly, I've always thought you'd be great.
Sofie: (blushes deeper, unceremoniously dumps him on his bed and turns away to hurry out the door) (Matt speaks as she turns to leave)
Matt: (Dizzily sits up) Woah. I-I think I just felt a line being crossed. Am I right? Am I? Damn. I crossed it, didn't I? Sof, I'm so sorry...
damn again... I can't seem to feel my trousers. D-do you have anything to do with that, Sof?
Sofie: (sits on the edge of his bed to take off his shoes) No, Matt, your trousers are still intact. And yes, a small line was crossed there, but don't fret, nothing unforgivable.
Matt: Shoot. I knew it. (cocks his head to the side) And Sof, you were right. Purple is a horrid color on you. I don't recommend that blouse. Damn. Another line, eh Sof?
Sofie: Yep, that was another one. But you're drunk, so I'll forgive you. (thoughtfully) Is this blouse really wretched?
Matt: Quite. I think that you should take it off- DAMN! There goes another line! (more slurred) Sof, I'm drunk. Slap me.
Sofie: (laughs lightly) Ah, Matt, I haven't seen you like this since high school. (stands up to put his shoes in the closet)
Matt: (surprised) What? Honestly... (sways and lays down, then rolls onto his side to look at Sofie) honestly, I haven't been this drunk since high school. Odd. Look what 2 years does to one.
Sofie: Yeah! Some people sober up! (laughs)
Matt: (super serious) And some people get more lovelier then ever.
Sofie: (taken aback) What?
Matt: (only slightly slurred) Ah, Sof, you're gorgeouser then you were in high school, and you were the most beautiful one in the whole school! And you know what? I'm drunk, and I probably wouldn't remember this in the morning, except you're here, so I won't forget it. And (drops voice) I'd tell you right now that I love you if I didn't know that the fact that I'm drunk would make you think that I'm just spouting nonsense and slurred emotions. (sighs, and rolls onto his back)
Sofie: (shocked) Well... (pause) Matt...
Matt: (tired and apologetic) No, no,no, Sof, no worries. I don't need you to say anything. I don't mind you saying something bad. But... come, sit here (pats bed)
Sofie: (speechless, sits on bed)
Matt: (shyly, after a few minutes) Sof, I lied. Your silence is killing me. But Sof, remember the partys. Remember when I was going out with Joyce Peterson, and I really hated her because she was so mean to you, but you made me promise not to say anything? Well, when I got drunk, that night, I was honest with myself and her. More honest than I had ever been. And I was drunk, but truthful and lucid.
Sofie: (shocked smile) Well, Matthew Parker, in the nine years that I've known you, I don't think that you've ever said this much to me at one time. So, in answer to your little speech, (smiles fondly) yes, I do remember that party. But as I remember it, was that you got so drunk out of your mind that you thought that Joyce was your girlfriend. You also passed out in Andrew's parents' bedroom. (frowns a bit and puts her hand on his cheek) And tonight, you professed your love to three other girls at the pub tonight. So, Mr. Love-Bug, (kisses his forehead) have a nice sleep, and I'll be waiting for the day that you say you really love me. While you're sober. Until then, I'll see you at school on Monday. (gets up)
Matt:(appears to be asleep)
Sofie:(turns out the light, only a dim lamp remains) (whisper) I love you, Matt Parker. (exits)
Matt: (gets up, totally sober, locks door, looks out window) (clearly, quietly) I love you too, Sofie. Truly.

Lights dim and go out.

I think this should be imagined with an English accent ;)
